Women eating carbs during pregnancy or planning to become pregnant should avoid diets that eliminate carbohydrates, as they may increase the risk of having babies with birth defects.
A diet low in carbohydrates during pregnancy would promote congenital malformations, according to a study published in the medical journal Birth Defects Research.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina in the United States conducted a study with 11,385 participants to understand carbohydrates roles in infant development.
